Letter from Student
17 August 2011
Dear Sifu
It is with regret that we leave earlier than planned. With Martin having a secong seizure, we both felt it was wise to return to the UK where Martin can see his own Oncologist Doctors to be on the safe side, as Martin is not insured for anything regarding the brain, just other health issues. He was a bit shaken by the events and knows it is a wise precaution to return home.
We would like to thank you so much for sharing your skills, knowledge and wisdom with us. We are privileged and humbled that you allowed us to be students at the Sam Lau Wing Chun School. At times it has been frustrating for us, but probably more so for you and the instructors, teaching two difficult and awkward to teach middle aged men. Your patience has no bounds or your compassion in knowing my brothers special condition and needs. Since Marty had his brain operation he has struggled to get back to where he was before, both in life and Wing Chun. Your understanding and warmth has us both filled with gratitude. Your sense of humour always keeping a smile on our faces.
At no time have we ever felt like two foreigners or outsiders. All the instructors and students alike helped make us feel very much a part of the Sam Lau Wing Chun family. The hand of friendship extended has made our experience a special one, and we will take the Sam Lau Wing Chun School back with us in our hearts.
We both know we still have a mountain to climb, but aspire to achieve the standards of excellence in Wing Chun that has been demonstrated to us at the School. We hope we are better people for the experience and that we will have the opportunity to return to Hong Kong again in the future.
We are very proud to have been your students and a part of the Sam Laun Wing Chun Scool, if only for a little while. We are awe inspired to continue with our journey within Wing Chun, hoping to maintain the level of tradition that will make us worthy and not disappoint you Sifu.
We would also like to thank all the instructors and students for the warmth and kindness shown to us. We hope that many other International students can come to Hong Kong and come to know those feelings of warmth we have experienced, enjoying learning Wing Chun with you in the pursuit of excellence worthy to be a member of the Sam Lau Wing Chun Kuendo.
With the utmost respect Sifu, and our heartfelt thanks. We will miss you very much and everyone from the Sam Lau Wing Chun school.
Thank You
John and Martin Dodgson
