Wing Chun Kuen, a well-known national wushu, is found very popular in Southern China, especially in Guangdong Province, European countries, US and Canada. It appeals to lots of people who have great interests in wushu. However, the promotion of Wing Chun is not good enough in China because of the lackof support from the high rank officials of the Chinese government. Owing to the insufficient knowledge and understanding of Wing Chun of the government officials from the local provinces’ lower positions to the central government’s higher ranks, the development of Wing Chun fallsshort of other martial arts, such as Taekwondo and Karate.

Having had a deep understanding and serious thoughts over the past years, we have been duly fostering Wing Chun Kuen, lest this famous and appealing Wing Chun will gradually lose its ground in the kung fu arena. Making reference fromthe developments of other martial arts, we intend to develop the Wing Chun Kuen Do in order to boost up Wing Chun Kuen. We also intend to make Wing Chun Kuen Do in line with the traditional genuine Wing Chun Kuen.

Wing Chun Kuen Do is an integration of Wing Chun Kuen. It not only maintains the original characteristics and genuine qualities of Wing Chun Kuen, but also promotes Wing Chun Kuen’s further developments in a systematic way.

In addition to its currently available skills and techniques of Wing Chun Kuen, there are also flexibly changeable steps of Wing Chun that extend its moving scope. Setting up examination, upgrading, “Dan(grading)”, competition rules and regulations, etc. can make Wing Chun Kuen standardized.

Thus, Wing Chun Kuen Do suits all people, irrespective of their age. As to beginners, it is not necessary to Stick Hands since its emphasis lays on the practice of loosing hands when fighting against opponents, with an effect of self-defense and keeping a strong body. So the practice of Stick Hands is a training for reaction against opponents.

Nowadays, Wing Chun Kuen overwhelmingly appeals to lots of foreigners with multiple increases in number; and people in China are becoming very hot in learning Wing Chun. Nonetheless, because of the lack of necessary supervision and proper guidance on Wing Chun; shortage of a systematic standard of styles and techniques of Wing Chun, it gives way to those beginners who have just learned for several months come up to teach others. This perverts the genuine Wing Chun Kuen and misleads students who are misguided and cannot learn genuine kung fu.

It is believable that the new launch of Wing Chun Kuen Do will be found very welcome to those who have interests in kung fu and are eager for further developments to become a team member of kung fu - welcome to join us. “World Wing Chun Kuen Do Association” was established and incorporated in Hong Kong in 2005. Going through continuing study and development, it is high time to move on.
